What is ECU remapping?
All vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection systems have an engine control unit (ECU) that manages all operating parameters. At Spark Load, we optimize these values with software individually developed for each vehicle.
Does it affect the manufacturer's warranty?
The diagnostic interfaces used by dealerships do not easily detect modifications made to the ECU software. We work directly on the original software, preserving its references and homologation codes, making detection significantly more difficult. Furthermore, under European Union law, the manufacturer's warranty is mandatory in all member states, meaning a manufacturer cannot deny warranty coverage for a modified vehicle without legally proving a direct link between the modification and the damage. In any case, we offer our customers the possibility of temporarily restoring the original ECU software whenever they consider it appropriate.
What warranty is provided with the ECU remap?
All our ECU remaps include a 5-year software warranty covering the correct operation of the software. This warranty does not include mechanical, electrical, or electronic failures. Customers may obtain this type of coverage through insurance providers offering such services, for example, RACE. If the customer is not satisfied, we also offer a refund of the ECU remapping cost within 15 days, excluding diagnostic work and dynamometer testing.
Is it legal to remap my car?
Yes. All Stage 1 ECU remaps developed by Spark Load comply with the applicable emissions regulations (not applicable to Stage 2 or Stage 3). Where required by local legislation, it is the customer's responsibility to homologate the vehicle's new power output and notify their insurance company of the modification.
Can ECU remapping cause my vehicle to fail the MOT/vehicle inspection?
No. All our Stage 1 software is fully compatible with the strictest vehicle inspection standards in Europe.
Is the modification reversible?
Yes. The process is completely reversible. We offer all our customers the possibility of restoring their vehicle to its original software free of charge.
Does fuel consumption increase after ECU remapping?
Under the same driving conditions, fuel consumption generally remains the same and may even decrease thanks to the increase in engine torque.
Is ECU remapping better than using a tuning box or power chip?
External tuning boxes or power chips work by manipulating the signals received by the ECU from certain engine sensors. This can be harmful to the engine because the original ECU no longer receives the vehicle's actual operating data. With ECU remapping, we develop custom software with optimized parameters tailored specifically to each vehicle, ensuring reliable long-term engine operation.
